Afcons Infrastructure achieved a milestone by building the longest drive through tunnel for Tughlakabad-Aerocity corridor. The precise location is between the Tughlakabad Airforce Launching Shaft and Maa Anandmayee Marg Station.
The director of projects and planning at the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation(DMRC), Rajiv Dhankher was accompanied by other senior DMRC officials for the event.
Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM) AMRIT was used for digging through the hard rock and mixed soil of the tunnel. To build the longest tunnel drive of phase IV of Delhi metro, multiple cutters were used to dig through the hard rocks on the way. The construction of the tunnel was diligently planned to avoid cutting through monumental constructions close to Mehrauli Badarpur Road, said S Paramasivan, Managing Director of Afcons Infrastructure.
It is called the DC-07 package, which includes three stations – Maa Anandmayee Marg Station, Tughlakabad Railway Colony Station, and Tughlakabad Station. It is a 11.26 km of tunnelling, a 223-meter ramp, and a 119-meter cut-and-cover section. This route is extended over 23.62 kms, completing the Aerocity to Tughlakabad Corridor (Line-10) of Phase-IV of the Delhi Metro.
The tunnel is said to be approximately 16 metres, for which 105-meter-long TBM was used. The machine was installed with 1,894 rings of inner diameter 5.8 meters to break through the rough surface of the tunnel.
The Aerocity–Tughlakabad corridor will have two parallel circular tunnels for smooth functioning of the traffic. The advancement towards the other parallel tunnel will take place around January 2025.
