Trichy corporation has announced incentives for residents paying current tax dues for the ongoing financial year (April 2025 to March 2026) within April 30.Owners paying their current property tax demand will get a 5% waiver from their total dues.
The city has approximately 240,000 property tax assessments, generating around 1.37 billion rupees in revenue annually. With about 500 million rupees in outstanding arrears each year, the corporation aims to motivate residents to pay their current tax dues promptly by offering a 5% incentive on their total tax demand for payments made before the April 30 deadline.
The maximum waiver has been capped at 5,000 rupees. To implement these incentives, the civic body has invoked Section 84(1) of the Tamil Nadu Urban Local Bodies Act of 1998. A senior corporation official noted, “In 2023, when we announced similar incentives, tax collection surged by 32% in the first month of the new financial year. We anticipate a comparable response this time, as prompt payments will allow us to concentrate on properties that have been in arrears for years.”
