VMRDA developed 90 layouts in 2022 including Jagananna Colonies

The VMRDA developed 81 layouts spread in about 5,000 acres under the Jagananna Colonies alone in 2022 by spending about ₹150 crore to create basic infrastructure.

The Visakhapatnam Metropolitan Region Development Authority (VMRDA) developed 90 layouts in 2022, including the YSR Jagananna Colonies and the MIG (middle income group) layouts. This was way higher than the layouts that were created by the VMRDA in its 60-year history.

The VMRDA developed 81 layouts spread in about 5,000 acres under the Jagananna Colonies alone in 2022 by spending about ₹150 crore to create basic infrastructure. The VMRDA will spend another ₹50 crore on advanced infrastructure in these one-cent layouts.

Speaking to the media at the year-end meeting, Visakhapatnam district collector and VMRDA metropolitan commissioner Dr A Mallikarjuna said that the 81 Jagananna layouts have provided housing sites to nearly 1.47 lakh homeless people in the district.

“The VMRDA has taken up development of 9 MIG layouts in Visakhapatnam, Vizianagaram, and Anakapalli districts. About 3,370 plots will be on offer in these 9 layouts spread in 450 acres.

In all, these 90 layouts designed and executed by the VMRDA in 2022 are all set to provide housing to nearly 1.5 lakh people. The VMRDA already spent ₹150 crore on the Jagananna Colonies. Another ₹50 crore will be spent on advanced infrastructure like roads, parks, etc.

All the wings of the VMRDA, right from engineering, planning, estate, and other wings, burned the midnight oil to complete the Jagananna Colonies. It was an intensive year for the VMRDA staff and officials on the housing front. The VMRDA has succeeded in reaching the goals and ambitions of government to provide housing for the poor,” said Mallikarjuna.
