The state government has set a target of completion of construction works on 34,505 housing units by March 22, Ugadi, to Vizianagaram district officials.
While works on 18,320 units were already completed, the remaining are in various phases of execution. As there are hardly two months for Ugadi, the beneficiaries have expedited the works.
According to Vizianagaram district officials, 77,205 housing units have been sanctioned to Vizianagaram.
About 40,500 units belong to individual house owners/sites. The remaining 36,600 units are being developed in 651 layouts spread across the district under Jagananna Housing Colonies scheme.
Each beneficiary is offered Rs 1.8 lakh financial assistance. Self-help group women are given an additional Rs 35,000 each. This is in addition to the land that has been provided at free of cost.
The housing corporation alone spent Rs 162 crore on creation of infrastructure in these layouts, while the energy department, rural water supply, panchayat raj, and other line departments are contributing their part for augmentation of infrastructure.
Permanent infrastructure is being developed in YSR Jagananna Colonies that includes roads, drains, water supply, electrification, underground internet cabling, etc.
