The couple has paid stamp duty worth Rs 1.15 core for the conclusion of the deal that was registered on Thursday, showed the documents accessed by ET. The deal was documented on August 30, while final deal registration took place on Thursday.

Cricketer Virat Kohli and his actress wife Anushka Sharma have jointly bought a nearly 8-acre land parcel at Alibaug near Mumbai through two separate transactions for nearly Rs 19.24 crore.

Of the registrations that were carried out for two land parcels, the first one measures 2.54 acres, whereas the second land parcel measures 4.91 acres.

The couple has paid stamp duty worth Rs 1.15 core for the conclusion of the deal that was registered on Thursday. The deal was documented on August 30, while final deal registration took place on Thursday.

Virat Kohli’s brother Vikas Kohli has concluded the deal for the land parcel in Zirad village of Alibaug on behalf of the couple. The cricketer is currently in Dubai for the Asia Cup cricket tournament.

Kohli and Sharma have bought the land parcel from real estate developer Sameera Habitats and are planning to build a plush farmhouse on the said plot.

“Demand for luxury properties including villas and farmhouses has been on the rise in the last few quarters, especially following the outbreak of the Covid19 pandemic. High-profile personalities are looking to buy and build leisure properties closer to metros yet seeking privacy and exclusivity,” said Amit Goyal, CEO, India Sotheby’s International Realty.

India’s luxury real estate has emerged as one of the growth drivers for the sector following the pandemic and continues to gain steam. Given the rising number of high networth individuals in the country and increasing preference among Non-Resident Indians (NRIs) to acquire properties back home is fuelling demand for high-end properties.

Alibaug has emerged as the new hotspot for celebrities and high-profile personalities including industrialists, CXOs, Bollywood actors, and cricketers. While Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone recently made their investment in this area, various other big names including Sachin Tendulkar and Rohit Sharma have also invested in this property market.

Apart from Alibaug, Goa, Igatpuri, Karjat and Lonavala are preferred locations for such properties in western India, while hilly terrains of Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh including Nainital, Shimla, Mussorrie, Dehradun and Aravali Hills are popular destinations in north India.

In the southern part of the country, the demand for leisure and vacation properties in locations like Ooty, Pondicherry and Nandi Hills have seen a robust growth.
