The Indian Railways is mulling to operate semi-high speed ‘Vande Bharat’ express between Prayagraj and Gorakhpur, with the only stoppage being the state capital.
This would meet the long-standing demand of people of Prayagraj and Lucknow to run a Shatabdi train between the two cities. Till now, the elite train runs only on two prominent routes, one from New Delhi to Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra and the other from New Delhi to Varanasi.
Sources said the Railway Board had sought information from the North Eastern Railways (NER) for the time slot for running the train.
They further said the train may start from Prayagraj Junction at around 6:20am and reach its destination at 2:20pm. On its return journey, it could start around 3pm and reach Lucknow at around 7pm and Prayagraj by 10:30pm.
