The state government has extended the date till June 30 for depositing urban development (UD) tax.
Under Section 107 (4) of the Rajasthan Municipal Act 2009, the government has made provisions for exemption on depositing the entire amount of house tax and UD tax.
The government has fixed the provision of 50% rebate on principal arrears and 100% rebate on penalty on deposit of house tax on residential/commercial plots/buildings from April 1, 2022 to June 30, 2022.
As per the records, in this financial year, JMC-Heritage has received Rs 21 crore, while JMC-Greater has received Rs 41 crore of urban development tax. Now, the state government has given another chance to the defaulters by extending the exemption period. This will also open the doors of revenue increase in the bodies.
During the pandemic, collection camps were not organised by the local bodies due to which the total 2.94 lakh plot owners across the state did not deposit the UD tax.
In the state capital, Jaipur, list consist of 1 lakh 35 thousand defaulters of UD tax.
An official said, “At present, the civic bodies have achieved just 35% of the UD tax target till the last date. This was the reason date was extended.”
To increase the revenue, after a gap of 15 years, the civic body in Jaipur has also initiated its property survey to identify properties taxable for urban development tax. Both JMC-Heritage and Greater has given the contract to a firm.
“Taxable property survey was last conducted in 2005 and since then the population of the city has almost doubled. At present there are 1,32,000 properties taxable that were identified in the 2005 survey. Lack of updated survey of taxable properties has been a major economic blow to the revenue of the municipal corporation. The online system will keep a tab on the property owners.”
