Unauthorised constructions of commercial building sealed in T Nagar

While planning permission was issued for construction of basement floor (partly shop and parking) and ground + three floors for a shopping complex, one more floor was added to the structure.

Unauthorised constructions of a commercial building at Nageswara Rao Road in T Nagar in Chennai were sealed on Tuesday.

While planning permission was issued for construction of basement floor (partly shop and parking) and ground + three floors for a shopping complex, one more floor was added to the structure. The planning permission was issued 25 years ago in 1996.

As per a press release from Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority (CDMA) on Wednesday, enforcement action was initiated by CMDA and Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) by locking and sealing the unauthorized conversion of part of the basement floor and construction of fourth floor.

While the regularisation application of the building was rejected in 2016, the release said that the Madras high court had directed the petitioner to appeal before the appellate authority of the state housing and urban development department.

The appeal was disposed by the state government with a direction to CMDA to pursue necessary enforcement action, which was followed by locking and sealing of the unauthorised portions.
