Two directors of a construction company, accused of defrauding an NRI of Rs 10.5 crore, have been apprehended by the Economic Offences Wing (EOW). A magistrate’s court has placed the partners of Ajanta Airawat Infrastructure LLP, Vishal Shah and Sukhpreet Kalsi, in judicial custody.
In his complaint, Rahul Gupta stated that he had invested Rs 1.5 crore in 2012 through his company in the firm of the accused. The company had purchased land in Bhandup for around Rs 1.5 crore. Gupta claimed that after withdrawing from the partnership in February 2016, he provided a loan of Rs 6 crore to the company, which has not been repaid.
In 2018, a settlement agreement was signed in which the LLP committed to repay Rs 10.5 crore within five months at an interest rate of 30%. If they failed to do so, 16 flats were to be allocated to him. Gupta asserted that neither the payment was made nor were the flats registered. He alleged that the accused mortgaged the project.
