The AREIDA (Assam Real Estate and Infrastructure Development Association) has requested Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal and Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma to take measures for the inoculation of COVID-19 vaccine to construction workers of the State at their working sites.
In a letter to the Chief Minister and the Health Minister sent on Friday, AREIDA president PK Sharma said, ” We want mobile vaccination facilities at the construction sites to prevent overcrowding at designated centres. Our members will provide the infrastructure required at the worksites where the vaccination may kindly be carried in a medical van and administered by authorized medical personnel. We will facilitate the pre-and-post inoculation norms at the sites, in consultation with the medical team.
“It would be possible to ensure that all workers are properly vaccinated if such an arrangement is made, and this would effectively prevent the spread of the virus amongst a large segment of the population.”
Sharma further took the privilege to point out that several hundred crores of rupees contributed by employers for the welfare of construction workers is lying in the Building and Other Construction Workers’ Welfare Cess Fund. “The cost of vaccination for the construction workers may be provided for from this Cess Fund,” he said.
