Supertech twin towers in Noida to be demolished by May 22

Realty major Supertech Ltd February 28 informed the Supreme Court that the demolition of its twin 40-storey towers of its Emerald Court Project in Noida will be completed by May 22. The next hearing in the case is scheduled for May 17.

SC had pulled up the realty co for not complying with its orders to demolish the twin 40-storey towers in sector 93 of Noida while warning that the company’s directors will be sent to jail for ‘playing truant with the court.’

On Monday, the company informed the court that the work on the demolition has already started. The Noida Authority and Supertech have been asked by the court to comply with all timelines.

SC in August 2021 had ordered the demolition for violation of building norms in collusion with NOIDA official, holding that illegal construction will be dealt with strictly to ensure compliance with the rule of law.

The court had further directed that the entire amount of home buyers should be refunded with 12% interest from the time of the booking and the RWA of Emerald Court project be paid ₹2 crore for the harassment caused due to the construction of the twin towers, which would have blocked sunlight and fresh air to the existing residents of the housing project.
