Following the approval of the appointment committee of the cabinet, the current additional member (finance) in the Railway Board, Soumya Mathur, is now first woman general manager of North Eastern Railway.
Mathur joined railway service through the 1987 batch of the Indian Railway Accounts Service (IRAS).
Her first appointment was in Vadodara, Western Railway.
Thereafter, she held several posts in the accounts department on Western, Northern and Central Railway.
She also worked as additional divisional railway manager (ADRM) in Western Railway’s Mumbai Central, North Western Railway Jaipur, principal financial advisor of Metro Railway Kolkata and Southeastern Railway Kolkata.
As DRM Jaipur, Soumya Mathur transformed Jaipur railway station, which resulted in Jaipur Station becoming the first station to receive Platinum Green Rating and top rating in the cleanliness survey during her tenure.
She is also responsible for Gandhinagar-Jaipur, an all-women main line station.
She was given the special award of Best Change Agent for the transformation initiative by Railway Board for converting Gandhinagar Jaipur railway station as all women staff station.
