The Greater Chennai Corporation is in talks with some banks to create a facility for residents to pay property tax online and get rewards.
Some banks have expressed interest to provide rewards such as cash back offers, movie tickets and gift vouchers for paying property tax through their portal. The civic body in a statement on Saturday said it is in talks with the banks to create a facility for paying property tax and provide rewards.
This is done in a move to encourage people to pay tax on time and use the online system effectively. In addition to this, the corporation is also in touch with banks to provide EMI options for housing owners who cannot pay big arrears at once.
The corporation said it has begun sending notices of the general revision of property tax to people through post. Residents can pay the tax from the url given in the notice or scan the QR code present in it.
