Salem Municipal Corporation (SMC) commissioner S Balachander on Sunday announced a ₹5,000 or 5% discount for taxpayers if they pay property tax on or before October 31. The incentive would be deducted from the tax while making the payment, he said.
SMC officials said that if one’s property tax was more than 1 lakh, the taxpayer would get a deduction of 5,000 from the said amount. If it is less than 1 lakh, there will be a 5% deduction from the tax.The commissioner said steps had been taken to collect property tax for the second half of the 2023-24 financial year.
“The state government recently announced a 5 % incentive or 5,000 cash incentive for the taxpayers when they pay the tax before October 31,” he said. He added that based on the direction, SMC made the announcement.
