Registration of 160 projects stuck as local bodies fail to update MahaRERA

​However, while some major civic corporations have been following the diktat, some municipal councils and town planning authorities have not been updating MahaRERA via emails, leading to pendency of registration of as many as 160 real estate projects in the state.

After some developers from the Kalyan-Dombivali region were found to have submitted forged civic clearance documents while registering projects under MahaRERA, it was made mandatory for local civic bodies and planning authorities to send emails of all commencement and occupation certificates issued for real estate projects to a dedicated email ID to verify their authenticity.

However, while some major civic corporations have been following the diktat, some municipal councils and town planning authorities have not been updating MahaRERA via emails, leading to pendency of registration of as many as 160 real estate projects in the state.

MahaRERA had earlier requested the urban development department to ensure the local authorities’ websites are integrated with its own. Pending such integration, the bodies were directed to send the commencement and occupation certificates to MahaRERA, as and when the certificates were issued.

Thereafter, MahaRERA made it mandatory that from June 19 this year, real estate projects would be registered only after comparing and verifying the authenticity of a commencement certificate sent by a local civic body or town planning authority to the designated MahaRERA email ID with the one submitted by the promoter.

Hitesh Thakkar, vice president of NAREDCO (National Real Estate Development Council), said, “Most major civic corporations in the state have been sending mails about the certificates issued by the body to MahaRERA. However, some municipal councils and town-planning authorities are not sending the mails to MahaRERA. They are violating the directives of the urban development department and the high court. These projects will come to a standstill, and the developers will be left in a limbo.”
