Rajasthan Govt okays Rs 1.7cr for 15k km roads, bridges

Public works department (PWD) has got the financial approval for around Rs 1,725 crore for the construction of approximately 15,000 km of roads and the widening and construction of a few new bridges across the state. “All these projects were announced during the state Budget earlier this year. PWD will soon issue tenders for all this work and start the construction,” said a PWD official.

Important projects that got the necessary financial approval include a 34-km road in Ajmer district to be built at a cost of Rs 30 crore, a 36-km road network in Alwar at a cost of Rs 35 crore, 27.50-km roads in Banswara at a cost of Rs 35 crore, and 71-km roads in Sawai Madhopur at a cost of Rs 97 crore, said officials.PWD will also construct a 0.5-km high-level bridge at Shahpura in Jahazpur at a cost of Rs 15 crore, 20.08-km roads and bridges in Udaipur at a cost of Rs 30 crore, and another bridge on a river in Jalore at a cost of Rs 19 crore, they said.

“Our govt wants to make Rajasthan number one in the country in terms of road network. A strong road network will lead to progress in the economic, social, and cultural development of the state,” said deputy chief minister Diya Kumar, who is also the finance, tourism, and PWD minister, recently.
