The municipal corporation (MC) has tied up with the postal department to send bills for both commercial and residential property tax to residents from March-end or the first week of April.
Taxpayers will be offered rebate — 20% for residential properties and 10% for commercial buildings — if they make the payment from April 1 to May 31. From June, defaulters will have to pay 25% penalty on the tax and 12% interest too.
Sources said the postal department will charge Rs 15 for bill delivery within Chandigarh and Rs 35 for Mohali and Panchkula besides other areas.
Like the last time, the civic body is considering to set up a system to redress grievances of taxpayers. “Property tax calculation method has been upgraded. Each and every property has been identified with the help of technology and paid or pending dues or any other type of financial issues mentioned in the record. But if somebody has any problems or queries, the authority is ready to listen to them and clarify or rectify any mistake,” sources said.
