The Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) will soon commence auctions for 110 properties for not paying property tax.
Civic officials have sent details of these 110 properties to the town planning department for valuation as per updated rates, and the auction will begin after the evaluation is done. This is the first auction of seized properties by PCMC.
The civic body has seized a total of 3,130 properties for defaulting property tax in the last few years, out of which 2,693 defaulters have paid their pending dues, collectively worth Rs 412 crore. Owners of the remaining 503 properties are yet to pay. The highest number of properties were seized from Chikali (154) followed by 55 properties around the PCMC building, Phugewadi (53) and Wakad (46).
“We have 110 properties for auction as of now, but we plan to put 503 properties up for auction as well. The idea is to set an example that the civic body will take strict actions against defaulters of property tax,” Pradeep Jambhale Patil, additional municipal commissioner of PCMC,said.
“We have provided training to our officials to follow legal formalities by legal experts. The valuation process for these properties is almost complete. However, the property owners will get a final chance to retain their properties after the valuation is completed, and we will send a final notice before auctioning. The property owners should pay their pending dues to avoid further action,” he added.
