Coimbatore corporation commissioner M Prathap on Tuesday announced a 5% incentive for the taxpayers who pay property taxes for the first-half of the financial year before April 30.
While the incentive was earlier provided to the residents in Chennai, it was not given to the residents in other corporations governed by the municipal administration department.
The revision carried out in the Tamil Nadu Urban Local Bodies Act, 1998, has now paved the way for the introduction of incentive, the corporation commissioner said.
According to the new rules, a 5% incentive, subject to a maximum of ₹5,000, shall be granted to the people paying the property taxes within the first 30 days of the financial year.Property owners could pay the taxes to the corporation employees when they come for door-to-door collection, or at the corporation zonal offices or tax collection centres.
