Tax branch of Chandigarh municipal corporation on Monday pasted 105 sealing-cum-attachment notices to commercial property defaulters for not depositing due tax to the authority. Now, these buildings will be sealed in 15 days without any further notice or intimation.
While these notices have been passed cross the city, majority of the commercial properties are situated in southern part of the city.
As per the civic body, these defaulters have defaulted in taxes amounting to lakhs. The properties fall under all types and categories like booths, SCF and SCOs.
“Besides normal recovery notices to these defaulters, we had sent them final notices also to give them optimum opportunity to pay their commercial property tax. With the defaulters not adhering to the same, we are left with no option but to paste sealingcum-attachment notice on these buildings,” an official of the MC said.
“Since we have been studying records of all commercial property tax defaulters in the city to compile a detailed report before the end of financial year (March 31), it is likely that in the coming days more such sealing-cum-attachment notices will be sent.” With the financial year near completion, tax branch of the civic body is taking strict action against defaulters as they have to prepare a detailed report in this regard to submit the same to the senior officials of the civic body.
As per records of MC’s tax branch, Chandigarh has around 80,000 residential and 26,000 commercial properties falling under the tax ambit. Till datethe MC has collected over Rs 50 crore from both categories.
