The MPCB has served a show cause notice to an ongoing construction work, purported to be a redevelopment project, on Bhau Daji Road near the Manav Seva Sangh, at Sion for not having environment clearance for the project and also for causing noise pollution.
The notice has been served to Safal Developers on Bhau Daji Road, Sion. Activists had earlier complained that the sound pollution caused by hammering and construction activities are affecting senior citizens residing at the old age home near the site and had sought action.
Activist Santosh Daundkar had alleged that construction work, which was being carried out without environmental clearance, was affecting senior citizens, who are housed at an old age home in Sion Mumbai.
Daundkar alleged that the construction activity was causing sound pollution and interfering with the groundwater aquifers.
Former IPS officer and lawyer YP Singh said “The MPCB notice is a welcome step. The old age home is next door and the noise pollution caused by the construction has been disturbing the senior citizens and it violates their rights. They don’t even have environmental clearance, which takes into account noise mitigation measures.”
