Greater Noida, September 7, 2025 – In a major move to strengthen safety measures around the upcoming Noida International Airport, all existing and future buildings within its vicinity will now undergo mandatory structural audits. The decision was formalized during the 86th board meeting of the Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA), chaired by Additional Chief Secretary for Industries and YEIDA Chairman Alok Kumar.

Officials confirmed that completion certificates for new constructions will only be issued after clearance through the audit process. Existing buildings in the YEIDA jurisdiction will also be brought under the framework, marking a shift towards uniform compliance. YEIDA CEO Rakesh Kumar Singh stated that the policy aligns with the Noida Authority’s structural audit guidelines.

The audit panel will include technical experts from IIT Delhi, IIT Roorkee, the National Institute of Aviation, CSIR, and Central University. These institutions will play a crucial role in evaluating the strength, safety, and compliance of structures to ensure they pose no risk to aviation operations.

The initiative comes at a time when Noida International Airport is preparing to begin flight operations soon. Safety concerns have gained urgency after a recent aircraft accident in Ahmedabad raised questions over urban planning around airports. Authorities highlighted that uncontrolled construction could interfere with flight paths and create risks for both aircraft and residents.

In addition to audits, amendments to the building bylaws in Noida, Greater Noida, and YEIDA regions will redefine permissible height restrictions. The revised framework will classify areas into color-coded safety zones within a 20 km radius of the airport. A consultancy firm will be appointed to set height and ground coverage limits for each zone.

At present, structures up to 24 metres are permitted in YEIDA areas, with taller projects requiring clearance from the Airports Authority of India (AAI). Under the new bylaws, approvals for compliant projects will be integrated into the map sanction process, reducing delays while tightening safety checks.

A joint committee comprising representatives from Noida, Greater Noida, and YEIDA will prepare the final draft of recommendations for state government approval. Once implemented, the policy will create a standard framework for structural safety and regulated growth around one of India’s most awaited greenfield airports.
