No power connections for new housing units-LDA

The total supply to the area is 150 MW a day and it is likely to increase to 220 MW a day by next two years.

New housing units planned or approved by the Lucknow Development Authority (LDA) in Gomtinagar will not get electricity connection unless the authority builds two power substations and hand them over to the Madyanchal Vidyut Vitran Nigam Limited (MVVNL).

Issuing this warning, MVVNL managing director Sanjay Goel said the two power stations are required to meet the increasing power demand of Gomtinagar area, which at present is 45,000 connections and the figure is increasing rapidly.

The total supply to the area is 150 MW a day and it is likely to increase to 220 MW a day by next two years.

At present, there are four substations — Vibhuti Khand, Vishwas Khand, Viraj Khand and Vipin Khand. However, rapid construction of housing and commercial units in Gomtinagar is proving to be a burden on four substations. “As a result, number of faults due to overloading have increased. In order to improve this, we need more substations,” Goel said.

According to LDA officials, the warning will have no immediate impact. MVVNL had asked them to build four new substations in 2015. However, due to non-availability of land, they could build only two. “Now we are looking for an appropriate place to build the other two,” they added.
