A survey carried out by Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) has marked 287 structures in the city as unsafe and dilapidated.
After reviewing the NMC’s monsoon preparedness on Tuesday, municipal commissioner Radhakrishnan B directed enforcement department and zonal offices to get such structures vacated and raze them.
As per the survey, highest number of dilapidated buildings are in Gandhibagh zone, followed by Mangalwari (50), Dhantoli (49 ) and Dharampeth (46). Laxmi Nagar zone failed to submit the latest report.
“The NMC machinery should be ready to meet exigencies during monsoon. Complaints received from citizens during monsoon should be immediately acted upon,” the civic chief said.
The role of NMC’s fire and emergency services department is critical during the rainy season. To reach out to maximum number of citizens in a flood-like situation, 24×7 control rooms will be set up in all 10 zones and at NMC’s headquarters in Civil Lines, informed chief fire officer Rajendra Uchake.
Radhakrishnan also directed officials to accelerate the work of cleaning rivers, nullahs and stormwater networks across the city.
He also told officials to act at the zonal level regarding accumulation of water in the basement of any building and instructed to survey structures where water accumulates in the basement so that preventive steps can be initiated.
