NMC collects Rs 14 crore property tax in April

The Nashik Municipal Corporation’s (NMC) move to introduce 8% rebate to prompt property taxpayers has yielded positive results as the civic body has collected Rs 14 crore property tax in the first two weeks of April.

NMC officials said they have plans to garner around Rs 50 crore in April of the current financial year 2024-25.

Apart from 8% rebate, the civic body has also introduced an additional 1% rebate if the taxpayers pay their bills online.

Last year, the civic body also introduced the 8% rebate to property taxpayers. This move had also received good response as the civic body collected Rs 50 crore property tax in April last year. Moreover, a rebate of 5% in May and 3% in June had also led to the collection of an additional Rs 50 crore tax in the respective months.

NMC officials said, “We will also give a rebate of 5% and 3% in May and June, respectively, this year.”

Officials mentioned keeping a property tax collection target of Rs 241 crore for the current financial year.

“Our objective is to collect maximum property tax in the first quarter (April-June) of the current financial year,” said NMC officials.

In 2023-24 financial year, the civic body had set the property tax collection target at Rs 210 crore. However, it could collect Rs 206 crore as most staff from the property tax department was deployed on election duty.
