In an unusual move, Union road transport and highways minister Nitin Gadkari has directed his ministry, National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) and National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Ltd (NHIDCL) to get his approval for all proposals for transfer and posting of Group-A officers.
Most of the officers and engineers in NHAI and NHIDCL, including the ones in the entry level, fall under the category of “Group-A officers”.
In a communication circulated to all the wings of his ministry on Wednesday, the minister has also said, “As a matter of principle, all policy levels and other important decisions have to be brought to my knowledge. In case, any important policy related decisions, which may have been taken in the past, should be immediately brought to my notice.”
Sources said the minister had been receiving complaints from engineers about transfer and postings. This forced him to take this “unpleasant” step, they added.
