The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has sanctioned the development of a 42 km highway that will link Dehradun and Mussoorie, with the objective of decreasing travel time from as much as 90 minutes to merely 30 minutes.
Valued at Rs 3,500 crore, the initiative will commence at Jhajhra in Dehradun and conclude at Gandhi Chowk in Mussoorie, offering a more effective route in comparison to the current 34 km hill road, which frequently experiences congestion due to tourist traffic.
A significant aspect of the project includes the construction of two tunnels to traverse the difficult Himalayan landscape. One tunnel, extending 2.9 km, will run beneath the George Everest peak, while a second tunnel, measuring two km, will be constructed prior to the Everest House segment. These tunnels are engineered to avoid steep inclines, sharp curves, and areas susceptible to landslides, thereby greatly enhancing traffic flow.
