New industrial parks on 13,500 acres; to generate 2 lakh jobs in TN

SIPCOT is in the process of establishing 11 new industrial parks in different parts of the state to generate employment for nearly 2 lakh people

SIPCOT is in the process of establishing 11 new industrial parks in different parts of the state to generate employment for nearly 2 lakh people in automobile, chemical engineering and several other sectors.

According to senior officials of state industries promotion corporation of Tamil Nadu (SIPCOT), the new industrial parks will come up in around 13,500 acres of land. Civic infrastructures such as road, electricity and storm water drains would be created at a cost around ₹3,300 crore. Once the new industrial parks are established, the total number of such facilities would go up to 32 in the state. As on date, there are 21 industrial complexes/parks and seven special economic zones spread over 32,000 acres of land in 12 districts.

The new industrial parks would come up in Ramanathapuram, Tuticorin, Sivaganga, Kancheepuram, Nagapattinam, Theni, Krishnagiri and Trichy.

“These new industrial parks will generate employment for more than 2 lakh people. The new facilities will create an ecosystem to achieve balanced industrial growth in the state and augment the socio-economic status of the people in southern regions in particular,” said a senior official. They would provide job opportunities in automobile parts manufacturing, engineering and fabrication, electronics components, rubber, printing and packing.

Apart from industrial parks for general engineering, food parks would come up in Manaparai, Tindivanam, Nagapattinam, Theni and Tuticorin.

“Land acquisition in almost all sites is at an advanced stage. In some of the places, we have issued notifications and commenced the disbursement of compensation to the landowners,” said another official.

After obtaining environmental clearance from the state environment impact assessment authority, the authorities have issued a work order to create civil infrastructures in the industrial park in Manaparai.

As regards the industrial park in Tindivanam, scheme cost is being prepared, he said.
