A parallel bridge will be constructed on Gurgaon-Jhajjar Road in Dhankot to decongest the road. A single-lane bridge on the road creates a traffic bottleneck, so a parallel bridge will be constructed by the public works department (PWD) to ensure smooth traffic movement.
Deputy Commissioner Ajay Kumar said there is a small bridge on the road which is not adequate to handle the increased traffic load. “We have decided to construct a parallel bridge to increase the carrying capacity,” the DC said.
The Gurgaon-Jhajjar Road, connecting Shyam Baba Chowk to Dwarka Expressway, is part of the state highway and falls under the jurisdiction of the PWD. Currently, the road is riddled with potholes, with certain stretches waterlogged due to overflowing sewerage. The traffic load on the road — one of the entry points in the city — increased over the years with the development of new sectors. The road is a crucial link to newer sectors off Dwarka Expressway and adjacent districts that remain chock-a-block during rush hours each day.
Earlier, PWD officials told TOI that water accumulated on the Dhankot stretch as the adjacent master sector road and Dwarka Expressway are at a higher elevation. Industry and environment minister Rao Narbir Singh inspected the 1,400-metre stretch in Nov and directed officials to come up with a special plan to prevent snarls on the road. He directed officials of PWD, GMDA and the municipal corporation to hold joint meetings to resolve the issue within a set timeframe.
The DC said there are many roads which need repairing. He said development work was paused due to cold weather and restrictions from GRAP. Once the temperature rises and weather conditions become favourable, these projects will be prioritised and completed.
The DC said efforts are being made to tackle waterlogging in the city during the upcoming monsoon, with continuous meetings and necessary arrangements by GMDA and the municipal corporation.
He said there were around 90 waterlogging points and the issues related to waterlogging have been resolved at most of the sites. There are 19 such points on which works are at different stages.
