On Monday, a team from the Municipal Corporation conducted a demolition operation against an unauthorized construction located near Mahakal Chowk in Ujjain district, Madhya Pradesh, according to an official report.
It was a G+3 building (Ground plus three floors) that was erected without the necessary approvals from the relevant authorities. A notice had been issued, but it was disregarded, leading to the structure’s demolition, the official stated.
Deepak Sharma, Assistant Commissioner of Ujjain Municipal Corporation, remarked, “We issued a notice to Noor Jahan, the spouse of Ghulam Mohammad, prohibiting the construction of any structure without the required permissions near Mahakal Chowk. However, they sought legal recourse, and the court did not grant a stay on the matter.
Despite this, they continued with the construction, prompting us to take action to dismantle the illegal building with the assistance of the police and the Municipal Corporation. The G+3 structure was erected without any authorization, which is why it is being demolished in its entirety.” In the meantime, a contingent of police officers was stationed at the site to ensure public order, and traffic diversions were implemented to facilitate smooth vehicular movement.
Gagan Badal, the officer in charge of Mahakal police station, stated, “An illegal structure is being removed by the municipal corporation, and a police team is present to uphold law and order. Traffic diversions have also been established to ensure smooth transit. Approximately 25 police officers have been assigned to the site.” Previously, in August of the prior year, an unauthorized structure adjacent to the Mahakaleshwar temple was demolished during a coordinated operation involving the Ujjain Development Authority, the Municipal Corporation, and the police.
That anti-encroachment initiative took place in the Begum Bagh area under the jurisdiction of Mahakal police station, with a significant police presence and Ujjain Municipal Corporation personnel deployed to maintain order during the demolition process.
