MPIDC gets consent for 300 hectare for Indore-Pithampur economic corridor

The Madhya Pradesh Industrial Development Corporation (MPIDC) has obtained approval from landowners for approximately 300 hectares under land pooling for the proposed 19.60 km Indore–Pithampur Economic Corridor, representing a significant advancement for this high-value infrastructure initiative.

The corridor, projected to exceed Rs 2,400 crore in cost, is designed to enhance connectivity between Indore and Pithampur, which is one of the largest industrial centers in the state.

According to officials, the corridor will encompass a net planning area of 1,177 hectares, with 954 hectares being private land distributed across 17 villages and 222 hectares designated as government land. To date, MPIDC has secured landowner consent for 295 hectares and has also facilitated the transfer of nearly 170 hectares of government land necessary for the project.

The corridor is anticipated to significantly facilitate freight movement, decrease travel times, and attract new industrial investments along the Indore–Pithampur corridor, which is home to automotive, engineering, pharmaceutical, and manufacturing sectors, as noted by the officials. Himanshu Prajapati, the executive director of MPIDC (Indore region), stated, “The feedback from landowners has been positive, and the project is progressing as planned.

The corridor will enhance industrial connections, improve logistics efficiency, and contribute to the overall economic development of the region,” he remarked. Prajapati further mentioned that efforts are ongoing to finalize the remaining land pooling procedures in phases.

The proposed economic corridor is part of a larger strategy to upgrade transportation infrastructure and bolster industrial ecosystems surrounding Indore. Upon completion, officials anticipate smoother cargo transit, reduced congestion on current routes, and enhanced access for industries in Pithampur and emerging industrial zones.

MPIDC officials indicated that the forthcoming steps will involve finalizing detailed engineering plans and preparing for phased land development along the corridor.
