The Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) has sanctioned funding for the development of a 47.9 km segment of the 77.4 km Nashik ring road, a significant infrastructure initiative intended to alleviate traffic for the forthcoming Simhastha Kumbh Mela.
The overall expenditure for this portion amounts to Rs 5,805 crore, which includes Rs 2,650 crore allocated for land acquisition. While MoRTH will finance the construction expenses for this segment, the state will be responsible for the costs associated with the remainder of the project as well as the land acquisition expenses.
The ring road is intended to mitigate congestion in Nashik city and enhance freight transportation. It will link important expressways, such as the Tawa-Nashik and Nashik-Chennai expressways, while circumventing sensitive locations like the Deolali military cantonment.
The roadway will feature a four-lane highway with a six-lane capacity, incorporating bridges, underpasses, and viaducts. As stated by Kumbh Mela Authority Commissioner, Shekhar Singh, “The route will facilitate smooth traffic dispersal and diminish congestion within the limits of Nashik city.”
