MMRDA signs MoUs to boost Mumbai’s infrastructure development

On Tuesday,the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) signed five MoUs worth ₹4.07 lakh crore.CM Devendra Fadnavis, who attended the India Global Forum event where the MoUs were signed,stated that the MMRDA will not face any funding issues for its various infrastructure projects including projects related to drinking water supply, highways, metro systems, roads, and tunnels.

He emphasized that these agreements will significantly advance the goal of transforming the Mumbai Metropolitan Region into a $1.5 trillion economy. During the event, a notable agreement valued at ₹1.5 lakh crore was established between MMRDA and HUDCO for infrastructure development.

Furthermore, MoUs worth ₹1 lakh crore each were signed with REC, PFC, and the Indian Railway Finance Corporation (IRFC), along with an additional ₹7,000 crore agreement with the National Bank for Financing Infrastructure and Development. An MoU was also executed to create a Global Capability Centre for Unilever’s Magnum Ice Cream business in Pune, which will involve an investment of ₹900 crore and the creation of 500 jobs.

Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, who also serves as the urban development minister, announced that over the past three years, memorandums of understanding (MoUs) totaling ₹20 lakh crore were signed at the World Economic Forum in Davos, setting a new record. He further stated, “This year, the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has signed and pursued MoUs amounting to ₹3.5 lakh crore in Davos. These agreements will significantly enhance the development of Mumbai and its neighboring regions.”
