MCG to auction tax defaulters’ properties if dues not paid

The defaulters owe Rs 90 crore as tax dues to the corporation, said an official. “We have sent notices to 253 big defaulters, whose dues are more than Rs 20 lakh each.

The MCG has issued notices to 253 property tax defaulters, asking them to pay the dues. While chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar has directed MCG officials to recover the property tax dues by December 31, the corporation said defaulters will have to pay their dues by December 25, failing which their properties will be sealed.

The defaulters owe Rs 90 crore as tax dues to the corporation, said an official. “We have sent notices to 253 big defaulters, whose dues are more than Rs 20 lakh each. We have given them one week’s time to make the payments. The deadline given to the defaulters is December 25. Around Rs 90 crore is yet to be recovered. If they don’t submit their dues by December 25, their properties will be sealed,” said Dinesh Kumar, zonal taxation officer-IV.

If the dues are not paid even after sealing of the properties, defaulters will be given 15 more days to make the payment, failing which their properties will be auctioned by MCG. After the notices were sent, MCG has recovered Rs 1.20 crore as dues. Most defaulters are builders.

The CM had asked MCG officials about the status of recovery of property tax during his recent visit to Gurgaon. It was in August this year that the MCG had auctioned 25 properties in prominent areas of the city, including Udyog Vihar, Sector 35, Nirvana Country, Sohna Road area among others.
