The Municipal Corporation of Gurgaon (MCG) sealed five properties for the non-payment of their property tax dues amounting to more than Rs 75 lakh.

Officials said, one property owner in Udyog Vihar-4 has pending property tax worth Rs 11.87 lakh, another in Sector 109 has dues worth Rs 14.83 lakh, two property owners in Palam Vihar have Rs 15.92 lakh and Rs 18.54 lakh dues, respectively, and one property owner in Mahavirpura has outstanding dues worth Rs 14.38 lakh.

“To recover pending property tax, MCG first disconnected the water and sewerage connections of the defaulters but as they didn’t pay heed, the sealing drive was carried out. If they still fail to clear their dues, their properties will be auctioned, “ an official said.

The Haryana government has announced a 25% exemption on the property tax for the 2021-22 fiscal year if paid by September 30. Moreover, an additional 10% of rebate will also be given for this year till September 30.

MCG had estimated revenue of Rs 1,103 crore from the property tax alone in the 2020-21 fiscal year, however, they could generate only Rs 250 crore. The income from property tax in the 2021-22 fiscal year is estimated to be Rs 1,235 crore.
