MC to use tiles, paver blocks made of construction waste

The plant has been made functional and was inspected by Mohali Mayor Amarjit Singh Sidhu alias Jeeti Sidhu on Wednesday. Sidhu said the MC has taken up various initiatives to bring Mohali at number one in the sanitation survey.

Tthe Mohali municipal corporation (MC) has also set up a construction and demolition (C&D) plant to manufacture lock-in pavers and curve channels made out of construction waste and debris. The plant has been made functional and was inspected by Mohali Mayor Amarjit Singh Sidhu alias Jeeti Sidhu on Wednesday.

Sidhu said the MC has taken up various initiatives to bring Mohali at number one in the sanitation survey. He said, “We have installed MC’s own machine for making lock-in pavers and curve channels from the debris created during construction and demolition. This machine has been installed near Balongi gaushala. Apart from this, more machinery — five tippers and three JCB machines — is being specially procured by the MC for sanitation and engineering wing. Every effort is being made to bring Mohali at number one in Swachh Sarvekshan.”

Deputy mayor Kuljit Singh Bedi said the cost of machine for making tiles from rubble is Rs 10 lakh while Rs 2.5 crore was being spent on tippers and JCB machines. Bedi said, “The plant has a capacity to manufacture 1,500 to 2,000 lock-in pavers and 300 to 400 curve channels in a day. With the passage of time and requirement, we will upgrade the production capacity.”

Mayor said out of five tippers, three will be given to sanitation department and two to engineering department. Similarly, two JCB machines will be given to sanitation department and one JCB machine will be given to engineering department. He said clear instructions have been given to the officers of these two departments that there would be no shortage of funds to bring the city at number one in the Swachh survey, but at the same time any negligence will not be tolerated and the responsibility of the authorities in the matter of cleanliness in the city will be fixed.

Mayor Jeeti Sidhu appealed to the people of Mohali to cooperate and throw their construction debris at the plant site so that it can be used as raw material for making tiles. He said MC was making every effort to bring Mohali at number one in the Swachh survey but this could not be possible without the cooperation of the people of Mohali.

20 to 25% debris used for tiles:

Mayor said 25% of construction and demolition waste is used in making the tiles. He said with this, one can get rid of this garbage and at the same time keep the city clean. He said under the pilot project a machine has been installed here and tile making has also started.
