Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray held a meeting with the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation ( BMC ) officials and directed the civic body to take immediate action against unauthorized constructions at the war level.
He assured that the state government would completely support the municipal corporation. A study done recently had revealed that in 27 years, the built-up area in Mumbai city had risen by 66%.
In the meeting, they also discussed about the debris being dumped in large numbers along the eastern and western highways. Due to such incidents, Thackeray has asked the civic body to install cameras and take immediate action against who is doing this.
He suggested that just like they have assigned teams as per wards for daily cleaning, they must also appoint teams for debris. These teams will look after the construction waste, stone-brick soil, and how they can be picked up instantly.
Later, he praised the civic administration for its efforts in managing the coronavirus situation in the city. However, he also said that threat of the COVID-19 third wave is not yet over as the festive season is coming up.
