MahaMetro’s 50% of total fare box revenue generated on a given day comes through digital payments through various modes like Maha Card, UPI apparatus and through MahaMetro Nagpur App, revealed a survey.
According to the survey, currently, Indian households make 35% of their transactions digitally, with pay-to-merchant (PTM) accounting for a significant proportion of transactions. Customers use digital payment methods in 80% of grocery, food delivery and travel transactions.
MahaMetro spokesperson said on average about 34% payment every day is through Maha Card while the unified payments interface (UPI) and the MahaMetro app together account for over 12% of the total fare box revenue. Of the total fare box revenue generated on any given day, the collective earnings through the various digital payment modes are more than 46%.
With the increasing awareness about digital payment, the figure is sure to go up and is certain to cross the 50% mark shortly. Realizing the need for promoting digital payment at all levels at a very early stage, MahaMetro, in association with the State Bank of India (SBI), introduced the Maha Card in 2019.
“With cash transactions on the decline, MahaMetro commuters have shown a willingness to move to digital payment. We hope that this trend continues and the number of commuters using this mode of payment will certainly go up in the future,” the spokesperson said.
MahaMetro commuters can avail of a 10% discount on fare revenue while using Maha Card. Coupled with this, the fact that card users have to just tap it and pass through the automatic fare collection (AFC) system without waiting in queue at the ticket counter. This has led to extensive use of Maha Card.
