Taking stern action against property tax defaulters, the municipal corporation (MC) on Tuesday sealed two buildings on Bhamian Road and Guru Arjun Dev Nagar falling under Zone B.
As per MC officials, both these buildings fall under commercial category and the owners had failed to submit the property tax, which amounts to around Rs 3 lakh.
As they failed to submit the tax even after a notice was served by the department, the buildings have been sealed. The seal will be removed after the owners submit the pending dues.
The MC team also went to seal another commercial building on Chandigarh Road ,. but the owner paid the pending tax on the spot.
Rajeev Bhardwaj, MC superintendent, said staff members concerned had been directed to expedite recovery of dues from the residents.
Apart from taking action against those who have failed to submit the tax, the MC will also tighten the noose around those, who have been evading the tax by filing it under wrong category.
Bhardwaj further stated that the drive against the defaulters would continue in the coming days and if the owners failed to submit the pending tax, the buildings would be sealed.
