L&T emerges lowest bidder for country’s longest river bridge in Northeast

The company quoted Rs 3,166 crores to emerge as the L1 bidder in the tender floated by National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation.

Infrastructure major Larsen & Toubro has emerged as the lowest bidder to construct a 20 km, 4-lane road bridge across the River Brahmaputra from Dhubri to Phulbari, which will be the country’s longest bridge over a river, a source aware of the development said.

The company quoted Rs 3,166 crores to emerge as the L1 bidder in the tender floated by National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation.

The bridge will connect the eastern States of Assam and Meghalaya, and the project is being financed by JICA (Japan International Cooperation Agency).

The bridge will better connect the North Eastern states to the rest of India, and will provide an additional domestic link for Meghalaya.

While financial bids opened last week, the letter of award is yet to be given to L&T. SP Singla Construction emerges as L2 during the bidding.

This is among a slew of noteworthy projects the infrastructure major has recently bagged.

L&T in October bagged a Rs 25,000 crore order for the largest section of the Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet Train Project, while it bagged a Rs 7,000 crore order for another section on the corridor connecting Vadodara with Ahmedabad, last week.
