Flour baron Mr. Ajay Goyal, in collaboration with Ms. Misbah Kapadia, Founder and Curator of Design Konstruct, envisioned his private office chambers as a space that transcends the conventional workplace. Spread across 1,200 sq. ft. at Mittal Tower, Nariman Point—Mumbai’s iconic business district—the office redefines leadership through a refined blend of art, hospitality, and leisure-driven design.
Designed as a “dream office,” the space reflects Goyal’s deeply personal vision—one where work coexists seamlessly with conversation, creativity, and comfort. Rather than a traditional corporate setup, the office unfolds as a thoughtfully curated environment that mirrors his lifestyle as much as his professional stature.
Design Philosophy: Where Traditions Evolve
The design philosophy draws from tradition while embracing thoughtful contemporary detailing. Conceived as a seamless extension of Goyal’s former office, the space retains familiarity while introducing a distinct personal leadership style—making it ceremonial yet fluid. From the moment one enters, the interplay of curved wooden panels, green veneer, and mustard tones sets the narrative of sustainability, growth, and ongoing transformation.
A transitional corridor featuring three circular tinted brown glass panels, accentuated with dull gold finish bands, establishes rhythm and balance while adding a layer of modern luxury. This carefully choreographed arrival experience sets the tone for what lies ahead.
The interiors are enriched with a calming palette of nude beige hues, layered with natural teak wood detailing, contrasting veneers, and bespoke furniture in earthy tones. Intentionally placed color accents punctuate the space, allowing key elements to stand out without overwhelming the overall calm. The office is thoughtfully planned to include a seating area, an expansive library, a pantry, and washrooms—each treated as an extension of the central design language.
An elegant blend of materials such as natural teak, refined veneers, stone, terrazzo, and acoustic panels lends the space a sense of permanence and timelessness. One of the most striking architectural features is the ceiling design, where light beige acoustic panels merge seamlessly with curved beams and textured finishes. At the entrance, an elongated inverted dome ceiling crowned with a decorative light fixture creates a dramatic focal point, enhancing the overall spatial character.
In Sync with Leadership Style
Hospitality lies at the heart of the office, reflecting Mr. Goyal’s personable leadership. A dedicated barista counter allows him to personally brew and serve coffee to guests, reinforcing warmth, connection, and ease. The expansive library showcases his handpicked collectibles—paintings and artworks that adorn the walls of his private chambers, offering insight into his personality and passions.
Art is woven throughout the office, with curated works appearing across the entrance walls, library, washroom doors, and wardrobe panels. A standout mural inspired by Leonardo da Vinci’s Vitruvian Man, reimagined with the addition of a butterfly, symbolises balance, transformation, and creative freedom.
Statement Pieces & Technology
Key design highlights include a statement carpet, a striking crimson arch in the pantry, thoughtfully curated artworks, and an enviable wardrobe—each contributing to the office’s distinctive yet cohesive aesthetic. Furniture selections include a sofa from BoConcept and chairs and tables from Commune, alongside custom-designed pieces in exquisite veneers featuring a rare green tone and bold black-and-white finishes.
Fenestration is handled with white overhung window panels from Fenesta, complemented by elegant blinds that allow controlled natural light. Lighting plays a crucial role in shaping the mood of the office, with a balanced mix of general and decorative lighting, including feature lights at tables and the entrance. The entire lighting system operates on light automation by The Light Boy Co, ensuring seamless control and energy efficiency. Sound is managed by Soundsmith, while premium materials and finishes include Jalaram Veneer and a Siemens wine chiller, further elevating the experience.
Designed with sustainability and efficiency in mind, the chambers integrate durable materials and smart systems that contribute positively to the environment. More than an office, this leisure-led workspace reflects Ajay Goyal’s multifaceted identity—where authority meets art, and leadership unfolds at a thoughtful, human pace.
