Kolkata metro plans to introduce UPI-based ticketing system

The Metro railway authorities with the help of State Bank of India and Centre for Railway Information systems (CRIS) are planning to introduce a Unified Payment Interface ticketing system .The general manager of Metro railway, P Uday Kumar Reddy conducted the trial of the UPI based ticketing system at sealdah station of East-West metro line on Tuesday where he purchased a ticket through the UPI system. Saumitra Biswas, Principal Chief Operations Manager, Metro Railway, has conceptualised this system in Kolkata Metro and played the leading role to implement it.

A press release released on the official website says, “Once this trial is complete, this ticketing system will be introduced in East-West Metro (Green Line). In order to avail this facility, commuters will have to tell the destination station name and scan the QR Code displayed on the dual display Board at the ticket counters and make the payment with the help of their smartphones.

After receiving the payment, QR Code Based paper tickets will be generated and commuters will be able to travel with that ticket. Commuters will also be able to recharge their Smart Cards with the help of this system.

After successful implementation of this ticketing system in Green Line first, this facility will be extended in Blue Line, Purple Line and Orange Line as well for the benefit of the commuters.Necessary arrangements for implementing this facility in these Corridors are being made.
