Amid complaints over the delay in the delivery of new Water Metro boats to Kochi Water Metro Ltd (KWML), Cochin Shipyard Ltd (CSL) is likely to deliver two more water boats this month itself.
KWML had stated that they can increase the frequency of services only after receiving more boats from CSL.
So far CSL handed over nine of 23 Water Metro boats, and the Water Metro authorities are now operating seven boats in High Court-Vypeen and Vyttila-Kakkanad route.
As the delivery of remaining boats were delayed due to various reasons, the KWML was struggling to increase the frequency of services.
CSL had earlier planned to deliver the boats by the last week of June but, the authorities are now planning to handover the boats next week.
There are demands to operate more boats as the services are getting good response from the general public. But KWML authorities said they must keep at least two boats as standby.
The ridership of Water Metro has already crossed 5.7 lakh.
The services on Highcourt-Vypeen route started on April 26, and the services on Vyttila-Kakkanad route started on April 27.
The Water Metro project comprised 15 identified routes connecting 38 terminals across 10 island communities and boatyards.
KWML is planning to start service on the High Court-Chittoor route once they receive new boats.
