Inspection along NH-37 in Tinsukia to prevent accidents

District commissioner Swapneel Paul and SP Abhijit Gurav on Saturday carried out an inspection of the accident-prone zones and blind spots along a 52-km stretch of National Highway-37 on the Tinsukia- Doomdooma-Dhola Sadiya bridge route.

The inspection aimed to identify potential hazards and implement safety measures to prevent future accidents.Accompanied by a team of traffic experts and engineers, the officials identified several accident-prone zones along the highway stretch, including sharp turns, inadequate signage and poorly designed intersections.

The inspection team also interacted with local residents and commuters to gather valuable insights.

The effectiveness of safety measures such as street lighting in accident-prone zones and barriers to improve visibility and prevent mishaps during night-time travel, was also discussed.

Following the inspection, Swapneel Paul announced a series of immediate measures to enhance road safety on NH-37. These measures include the installation of additional speed limit signs, road reflectors and cautionary boards at accident-prone zones.

Strict enforcement of traffic regulations on speeding and drink driving will also be implemented to deter reckless behaviour on the highway, he said.

“We are deeply concerned about the escalating number of accidents on NH-37. This inspection is a critical step towards identifying the underlying issues and implementing the required measures to enhance safety. We will collaborate with the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) to rectify the accident-prone zones and blind spots on the highway,” Paul said.
