A maintenance depot for Vande Bharat trains is currently under construction at Bhagat Ki Kothi in the Jodhpur Railway Division, marking the first of its kind in the nation, as stated by a senior railway official on Tuesday. Discussing the project, Jodhpur Divisional Railway Manager Anurag Tripathi remarked, “The Vande Bharat maintenance depot being established at Bhagat Ki Kothi in the Jodhpur Division is the first of its kind in the country. It will be responsible for the maintenance of Vande Bharat trains from all over India.
Spanning 600 meters, it will feature three pit lines capable of servicing three trains simultaneously. Four additional depots are planned across the country, but this is the first one currently under construction…” Tripathi indicated that the completion of the maintenance depot is anticipated by the end of 2025. He also mentioned that a proposal has been put forth to construct a workshop and training center adjacent to the depot.
The official stated, “Recruitment will be conducted through the Railway Recruitment Board, followed by training and deployment. We have also proposed a new project worth Rs 200 crore to establish a workshop and training center near the depot.
Once this is approved, tenders will be issued, and work will commence… The maintenance depot is expected to be operational by the end of this year… The workshop and training center will require more time, but progress will be rapid once initiated…” The Vande Bharat Express symbolizes the future of Indian Railways, reflecting the nation’s dedication to innovation, self-sufficiency, and sustainable development.
The inaugural Vande Bharat Express train was launched on February 15, 2019, along the New Delhi-Kanpur-Allahabad-Varanasi route, operating at a speed of 160 kilometers per hour. This train has been introduced to enhance maintenance technologies and methodologies, aiming to improve the productivity and performance of all railway assets and personnel.
