The Indian railways has approved Rs 509 crore for constructing two major flyovers in Cuttack and Rayagada districts. The infrastructure development aims to enhance operational efficiency and reduce traffic congestion on key railway routes.
In Cuttack district, a 10.89-km rail flyover will be constructed at a cost of Rs 268.92 crore, connecting Rajathgarh, Radhakishorepur and Machhapur railway stations. The project will enable simultaneous train movements, reducing delays caused by cross-traffic at these junctions.
The railway board has also given nod to a Rs 240 crore project for the Raipur-Vizianagaram line under the Waltair division of East Coast Railway (ECoR).Officials said this long-awaited initiative aims to address critical capacity constraints and improve operational efficiency along the Singapore Road-Rayagada section in Rayagada district, a known bottleneck for train operations.
A railways statement released on Monday stated that a key highlight of the project is the construction of a 5.5-km flyover to streamline traffic on the Raipur-Vizianagaram line.
“The flyover will enable trains to merge seamlessly with the loop line at Singapur Road, thereby facilitating smoother operations. This development forms part of the energy, mineral, and cement corridor of Indian Railways, designed to bolster traffic capacity and ensure uninterrupted train movement across this vital stretch,” the statement read.
“These flyovers will significantly improve train operations in the Khurda Road and Waltair divisions, where major junctions currently face severe traffic bottlenecks,” a senior railway official said.
The new infrastructure will create dedicated paths for trains from various directions, ensuring uninterrupted movement and reducing travel times. This improvement is expected to enhance the overall passenger experience while boosting the operational efficiency of the railway network in the region.
In a related development, the railways is undertaking significant yard restructuring work at Bhadrak railway station. This project aims to enhance operational efficiency and improve train management at this crucial station, a key hub in the railway network of the ECoR zone.
Once completed, passengers can expect smoother train operations, reduced waiting time, and enhanced overall service quality. Third line construction work is also going on in the Bhadrak-Ranital railway section. Non-interlocking work will be done for the smooth passage of trains at Bhadrak railway station.
