Indian Demolition Association (IDA) successfully concluded a workshop on Innovative Techniques in Demolition & Recycling on August 25, 2025 with the participation of 100+ delegates, at the Chennai Trade Centre during Conex South. The workshop focused on advancing knowledge, sharing practical experiences, and exploring modern methods to improve safety and sustainability in demolition and recycling. It brought together industry experts, and professionals to exchange insights and discuss solutions for current challenges and future opportunities.

Workshop Presentations
- Mr. Mohan Ramanathan, Founder of IDA and Managing Director of Advance Construction Technologies Pvt. Ltd., outlined modern demolition methods using heavy machinery and their role in transforming project execution across India.
- Mr. Ram Matte, Chairman of IDA and Principal of Matte Associates, presented a demolition project case study, illustrating planning processes, execution challenges, and key lessons learned.
- Mr. Kannan Paulthurai, Director of PK Unique Projects Pvt. Ltd., highlighted the role of IDA and regional workshops, stressing how such sessions promote knowledge transfer and strengthen professional networks in demolition and recycling.
- Mr. Fazrulla Basha, Managing Director of Abcon Concrete Surgeons Pvt. Ltd., addressed safety in demolition, sharing practical guidelines on risk management, operational discipline, and adherence to safety standards.
- Dr. Prakash Doraiswamy, Director of Air Quality at WRI India, presented approaches for data-based management of construction dust, with emphasis on monitoring tools and mitigation practices for urban demolition sites.




Interactive Session
Following the presentations, Q&A session engaged participants on topics such as equipment optimization, waste recycling methods, dust suppression technologies, and evolving regulatory requirements.
Delegates also took part in an open discussion, contributing their field experiences and suggestions on strengthening industry practices. The exchange highlighted the collective intent to advance safe and sustainable demolition methods in India.

Participation
The workshop saw participation from over 100 delegates, highlighting strong interest from stakeholders across the construction and demolition sectors. Attendees included demolition contractors, equipment operators and suppliers, construction companies, builders, civil contractors, and independent consultants and professionals.
IDA is broadening its industry reach, having earlier tied up with Messe Muenchen India for Bauma India and now joining hands for Conex South to promote demolition and recycling practices. It has also reaffirmed its commitment to holding regional workshops and conferences to advance demolition techniques and practices across India.

The Indian Demolition Association (IDA), formed in November 2019, is India’s first industry body dedicated to the demolition sector.
