Haryana govt on Thursday approved a budget of Rs 616.1 crore to upgrade the Hodal-Nuh-Pataudi Road into a four-lane highway that is expected to boost regional connectivity and bring with it economic benefits for bridging the urban-rural gap.
This 71-km corridor will also interlink national highways, including NH-248A (Gurgaon-Nuh-Rajasthan), which is part of the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway, and NH-8 (Delhi-Jaipur).
The decision to sanction the project’s budget was taken at a meeting of the standing finance committee chaired by chief minister Nayab Singh Saini in Chandigarh on Thursday. Public works department minister Ranbir Gangwa said the project, once completed, will become the backbone of regional connectivity in Haryana, and it will integrate the state’s highway with national highways.”The upgraded road will also support trade and transportation efficiency, connecting rural areas to urban centers and providing easier access to markets, schools and healthcare facilities,” the PWD minister said.
As the stretch crosses Palwal, Nuh and Gurgaon, access to villages such as Bilaspur, Pathreri, Bawla, Nuh, Ujina and Hodal is likely to improve. Officials said travel time to 20 villages from Nuh and Pataudi will also reduce. This includes Bhimsika and Nangal Jat in Palwal.
The villages along the state highway could also witness socio-economic growth because of better connectivity, they added.
On Thursday, officials said, the CM emphasised the importance of completing the project on time. Saini also said reforms in the tender process were needed to address delays in carrying out infrastructure projects.
Under the proposed new system, if the lowest bidder (L1) abandons a project, the contract will automatically transfer to the second-lowest bidder (L2) to ensure uninterrupted progress.
Currently, the concerned authority must float the tender again if the initial bidder awarded the project backs out.
