The Hubballi-Dharwad Municipal Corporation (HDMC) has been ranked second in the state for digital documentation of property records.
The HDMC, which regulates the infrastructural assets and civic facilities in the twin cities of Hubballi and Dharwad including properties, transactions and their administration, had launched an online management system that keeps a record of property ownership, transactions and status.
This online database, called e-aasti, is designed to bring in more transparency, remove illegal transactions, curb fake documents, scams and fraudulent properties.
It is designed to streamline property record management and establish electronic integration with registration. The database will hold about 46 types of information that will include the photo of the property owner, photo of the property, and PID (Property Identity Number).
The e-aasti drive has caught pace of late.
HDMC officials are visiting every household and commercial property, asking people to digitise their property records.
HDMC assistant commissioner FI Ingalagi said a team of officials will visit every house from 8 am onwards and collect data of properties to document it digitally. This apart, they also issue notices to owners of vacant sites if garbage is dumped.
There are a total of 12 zones in the twin cities and over 2.19 lakh properties. Of them, vacant sites number around 70,000. There are nearly 1.14 lakh households, and 40,000 commercial establishments. Of the total properties in the twin cities, so far 9,954 have been registered under e-aasti. The Mangaluru civic body stands first by recording 22,000 properties, he said.
This documentation is not limited to the twin cities but will also be conducted in rural areas. The E-aasti drive has been launched in Annigeri, Navalgund, Alnavar, and Kalghatgi taluks, he added.
