MCG on Sunday sealed two properties for non-payment of property tax dues of more than Rs 22 lakh. The first property is located in Sector 32 and has dues worth Rs 12.07 lakh, while the second property is located in Sector 49 and has dues worth Rs 10 lakh, officials said.
The sealing drive comes following MCG commissioner Vinay Pratap Singh’s instruction to zonal taxation officers to seal at least 10 properties that have not cleared the tax dues.
“We have been told to seal at least eight to 10 properties in a week so that the property tax defaulters pay their pending amount. The dues that the MCG is yet to receive is more than Rs 500 crore and we are soon going to begin auction of these properties too,” said Dinesh Kumar, zonal taxation officer-2, MCG.
MCG officials said that the properties they are sealing have dues pending since 2010. A total of 1,500 property owners have not paid their dues yet. Moreover, the civic body has drawn a list of 28 properties to be auctioned.
The Haryana government on August 18 had notified fresh deadlines to clear the property tax dues. A one-time rebate of 25% will be given to owners, who have dues since financial year 2010-11, if they clear the dues till financial year 2019-20 by October 31.
“The 25% rebate will be given only for the period from 2010 to 2017,” an official said. Earlier this deadline was August 31, 2020.
